Yes extremely easy! If for any reason you feel that you want to cancel your membership all you need to do is call UNISONdirect on 0800 0 857 857 or let us know via myUNISON where you can access all your membership details.
Your membership fee is based on what you earn. We will calculate your monthly membership fee as part of the joining process or you can see our membership fee calculator (link). There are specific membership categories and fees for students, apprentices, retired workers and you can alter your membership fee if you start earning less or you take unpaid leave.
Anyone working in public services or related sectors can join UNISON, including full-time, part-time, and temporary workers in areas like healthcare, education, local government, social care, utilities, and the voluntary sector. Students, apprentices, and retired workers from these fields can also join under specific membership categories. As part of the joining process we will check that we are the best union for you and that your employer recognises UNISON in your workplace.
To ensure fairness to all, new joiners must be in membership for four weeks to get assistance – this includes representation, welfare and advice – and UNISON cannot assist members with an issue or incident that occurred before joining. Many benefits are immediately available for new members including extensive advice on workplace issues (link), UNISONdirect our call centre for members, getting involved (link) with the union’s activities and some of the membership discounts (link).
